Buenas días from Quito, Ecuador!

Las Lajas Sanctuary (Ipiales)
Las Lajas Sanctuary (Ipiales)

We arrived in Ecuador yesterday after a quick stop in the Colombian border town of Ipiales to see the STUNNING Las Lajas Sanctuary. Definitely worth the stop over if you're doing an overland border crossing.

We've just arrived at our Air BnB where we'll be spending the next 5 nights Working, Celebrating my 30th and exploring the capital of Ecuador! Small note, if you've come here for Analytics - I've decided to go even deeper into it and include more social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok so it's become too big to fit here. It now lives on it's own page Social Media and Youtube Analytics June 2023 page.

Accommodation can fluctuate madly in Colombia and we learnt some lessons this month. Some of the best places we stayed were $25 a night, while some of the worst nights sleep we had were the most expensive! our long stretch in the nice apartment in Cali for $25 per night really helped us get our average down and we really regret forking out $60 a night for a place that literally had holes in the wall haha we could hear all the street noise! * You'll notice some complimentary nights stay in June, rest-assured we only accept the conditions of the nights stay if we are allowed to create our own videos from our own experience. We will never accept anything complimentary if we have to give a favourable review over an honest one.

Things to note: The numbers are different to the 'Expenses by Category' Section. that's because in that section I use the Master sheet which includes small transports like Ubers, Grabs, Taxis and short cheap trains which I thought wouldn't add any value in this section! (I kept the total the same)

June included another 2 overnight buses. One was great and we made a full video about getting from Cartagena to Medellin with expreso brasilia. The second one was from Cali to Ipiales with Bolivariano and we are still sore from that. My (almost) 30 year old back did not hold up well and Emily's neck is still sore enough to be causing headaches! I thought I would include expected time vs actual time and i'm excited to see how these change as we move into new South American countries.

Insurance is expensive but worth it. Safety wing is our insurer of choice, they seemed to offer the most comprehensive cover especially when lots of countries needed specific types of insurance during the pandemic, they were great! - Unforauntely coming to America meant we had to increase our coverage which immediately doubled the price. But it's just something you Need to have. Adobe is the software we used to edit our YouTube videos. Epidemic sound is where we get all our music from, you can get a free trial with this link*: https://share.epidemicsound.com/i1nhpc

This is a new one for us! we finally put some ads on our website and started to post useful and interesting content, hopefully we can see this as a steady income from here on out!

Summary

Even though we had a little bit of a disappointing month for our affiliate conversions it's a great sign that the clicks are still increasing month to month! We are ecstatic to say we reached a milestone of over $1000 income from Youtube for the month! Hopefully this is sign of things to come as we continue to move around South America until November!
