- Social Media and Youtube Analytics | July 2023
Hi There! Whether your creating online content with a dream to live nomadically or you're just curious about what a social media growth journey looks like, you're in the right place. This page has a lot of words, numbers and graphs so I hope I can make it as entertaining as possible while still providing the juicy stats you want. If you're after our income and expense report click here! This page might use acronyms, if you're unsure of what they are i'll include a definition glossary at the end. Jump to what you want: Youtube Analytics July was a crazy month! it started nice and steady. Our South America videos still didn't hit the mark (And haven't even still!) but our Rocky Mountaineer video kept on moving. It poured some gas on the fire and had a bit of an explosion moment that carried our views an income for July. We also have to give an honorable mention to our Tranfagarasan video from Romania as well as the old faithful Serbian Food who both had good sized contributions. Best performing Video (July) Obviously the Rocky Mountaineer video went a bit crazy for us and continued to bring in views and subscribers through July. Most of the viewers for this video are also based in America, Canada, Australia dn the UK so the CPM has been climbing too! Underperforming video (July) Our worst performing video for the month was a bit more of an information based video on catching a bus between Cartagena and Medellin (Two of the most tourist heavy cities in Colombia) We thought it would be a long term winner and tried to keep the retention a big focus. The retention focus cut the length all the way down to 6 minutes but alas, it wasn't to be. The video started slow and stayed slow. I won't write it off completely but it's unlikely he algorithm will pick this one up! Strategy change update We continued publishing Shorts to our main channel through some of July however we significantly reduced the amount toward the end of July as we got busy. Below you can see the breakdown of Long form VS Short form. We make sure to untick the 'Publish to subscribers' option when posting shorts so we don't annoy the long form chronological viewers. So this means that we have gained 45 Subscribers just from our shorts in June and if we can get even a few of those converted into long form viewers by having YouTube showing them our long form thumbnails, then it's definitely worth it! Youtube Financial Statistics (July) Last month I posted in here saying that in June we had both our Highest income month of $2,487.64 AND our highest income day of $139.17. Records are made to be broken though and in July we absolutely smashed it! Website Analytics We've continued to put in A LOT of behind the scenes effort into our website through July. We made the decision to move from Wix to Wordpress for design and functionality reasons but that also means learning a whole new system. Which we're only really getting the hang of now. We hope you'll be reading the next months Analytics report on the new website! Website search engine optimisation (SEO) We've continued to try and improve upon our SEO but since we are in the process of moving over to Wordpress this is going to look a lot different soon! We are getting notified every so often that we have had a few people find our site through google search which is fantastic and I hope that continues! Website page Indexing Our page indexing (Which is the number of pages we have that are actually listed on google) has risen again. Like i said earlier, we ended up getting pretty busy through the end of July and kind of stopped asking google to index our pages. PLUS moving everything to the new website means it might not be worthwhile anyway! Website page load speed We are straight up not having a good time with our load speed and performance for our website. Specifically viewing on the mobile. Sorry if this page loads horribly slow!! Again, we have decided to put our energy into building the new site rather than fixing this one so hopefully all these speed issues will be a thing of the passed in my August report! Instagram Analytics The world of instagram is another place we havent really explored too much. we've made a few reels and posts that have done okay but we never really had a clear vision or any consisteny until recently. In July our instagram reached 6378. Which is a MoM drop of 21.1%. We didn't post anywhere near as much as we did in June so this is understandable. Our followers grew from 844 at the beggining of July to 1004 at the beginning of August! which is MORE than June, deposite reaching less accounts! thats a growth of 160 followers (186 new followers - 26 who stopped) but where it sounds much more impressive is a month on month growth rate of 18% We definitely fell a little bit off the wagon with our posting on instagram and hope to get back onto it through August but we really don't know. We are behind in our editing schedule adn this new website build is a long process! TikTok Analytics 'Throw anything and everything at the wall and see what sticks' is the method we subscribe to for TikTok. It seems to have no real rhyme or reason so we are repurposing as much as we can. We seemed to continue to be sliding backwards over the course of July and have come to rest JUST above 7000 followers. Hopefully we can post a few more things to stay clear of that mark! Youtube Shorts Analytics When we get busy, the first thing to fall off is the shorts channel. We're okay with that. Sometimes I do think we're splitting our focus over a few too many platforms/channels so i'm okay with litting this one go.. Facebook Analytics Facebook is another place that we want to put more effort into but it has definitely been put on the back burner for July. We did grow in our page visits thanks to the Rocky Mountaineer tagging our page in one fo the videos we made for them! (It got almost a million views on Facebook somehow!) but i tonly resulted in 10 page likes of growth! Summary July was insane! We have our best YouTube month ever but also had most other platforms decline. We are definitely still trying to find the balance of managing so many different things at the same time. I think it's okay to let some things fall away if it means a higher level of mental health and our main focus being succesfful! Thanks for reading our social Media and Youtube Analytics report! If you want to check out how much everything costed in July, click here! Glossary of terms CPM - 'Cost per Mille' This is the cost an advertiser will pay YouTube per 1000 views. It fluctuates through a number of factors, the biggest two being location the ad is viewed from and type of ad. E.G. Finance videos get finance ads that are more expensive. A viewer from a wealthier country is more expensive than less wealthier countries. RPM - 'Revenue per mille' Is the amount of money you will take home as Adsense after Youtube has taken it's cut from the CPM. AVD - 'Average view duration' The average time spent viewing your video generally represented as a % CTR - 'Click through rate' This is a % of people who click on your thumbnail when shown MoM - Month on Month Impression - Amount of times your thumbnail has been shown to a potential audience
- Full Time Travel Budget | July 2023
Buenas días from Quito, Ecuador! (again) We've spent July running around and seeing some great parts of Ecuador. The cloud forest Mindo, The Quilotoa Loop, The waterfalls of Banos and we even spent the last 5 days in the Amazon jungle! All this to say, you would think our budget to be a mess. Slumped on a stool in the corner of the ring, bloody and bruised with towel on it's head. But no! our budget stands in the centre with it's gloves thrust in the air because, in the month of July...... we. made. profit. As is the new normal, this will deep dive into where we put our pennies and i'll reserve all the analytic reporting to another post, if your interested in that, you can find it here. Expense Report Categorys This is a quick reference category breakdown of our expenses. Our expenses for July were under control for a lot of reasons but these are the big two. First, the Average nightly spent for accommodation we managed to keep under $36 Aud per night. Second, our food spending was SO under control. We stayed for a few extra days in Air BnB's which allowed us to buy food in bulk and cook. Meaning our average spend per day on food was UNDER $18 AUD (Thanks to a LOT of no spend days!) Accommodations Expenses We have been staying in places a litle longer than usual in July which has allowed us to save some money on cleaning expenses etc. Really happy with how July finished! * You'll notice some complimentary nights stay in July, rest-assured we only accept the conditions of the nights stay if we are allowed to create our own videos from our own experience. We will never accept anything complimentary if we have to give a favourable review over an honest one. The Sani lodge was in need for some Drone footage and other Marketting that we were happy to supply for them in exchange forthe experience! We try to use Trusted house sitters as much as possible because its amazing and you can get a 20% discount through this link: trustedhousesitters.pxf.io/jordanemily20 Use code: JORDANEMILY20 at checkout! Transport Expenses Things to note: The numbers are different to the 'Expenses by Category' Section. that's because in that section I use the Master sheet which includes small transports like Ubers, Grabs, Taxis and short cheap trains which I thought wouldn't add any value in this section! (I kept the total the same) We spent a lot of July in Quito as you can tell. This meant that a big lot of our transport expenses were made up of Taxi's and Ubers. Buses in Ecuador are super affordable and we we're paying less than $10 per person for every trip, with the exception of the big journey down to Coca! Fixed Costs Insurance is expensive but worth it. Safety wing is our insurer of choice, they seemed to offer the most comprehensive cover especially when lots of countries needed specific types of insurance during the pandemic, they were great! - Unforauntely coming to America meant we had to increase our coverage which immediately doubled the price. But it's just something you Need to have. Adobe is the software we used to edit our YouTube videos. Epidemic sound is where we get all our music from, you can get a free trial with this link*: https://share.epidemicsound.com/i1nhpc Income Report Affiliate Income Licensing Agreements No licensing this month, It's getting more likely that what we got in Vietnam was a one time thing! Brand Deals/Savings Partnered stays: Sani Lodge in the Amazon Jungle | 4 Nights Youtube This entire breakdown of this months Youtube analytics and income section has been moved into it's own more detailed social media page! Check it out here. Website This is our second month earning adsense income from our website. It's a lot less than last month but we've dedicated a lot of time over July trying to build a new website that will look and feel lots better. Hopefully you'll be reading the August budget report on there! Summary This is insane! We we're in the jungle when we realised that our Youtube Income will actually be higher than our expenses this month! We know this isn't something that can continue and we've already seen a big dip of income on the last few days of July. But we have to celebrate sucha monumental win! Thank you so much for reading our Full Time Travel Budget and of course, for watching along! If you're hunting for the Analytics section that is usually at the end it's now been moved to a larger house with more detail and more platforms. Click here for the redirect! - How to get to Mindo Ecuador by bus - Full Guide
Mindo is a must see city just outside of Quito. It's considered one of only 736 cloud forests in the world and is a tranquil wonderland. There's nature lurking around every corner and huge waterfall hikes to do. But how do you get there? When we were looking to take a bus from Quito to Mindo we couldnt find much information about the Journey online, so i've decided to throw one together! This is our How to get to Mindo, Ecuador by bus - Full Guide. Getting to the right bus station There are 3 main bus stations in quito and countless others dotted around the giant city. The one you'll need to get to is called 'Terminal La Ofelia' This is a decent sized bus terminal in the North of the city that serves both local and national lines. An Uber from Historic Centro costs about $5-$7 USD depending on time and if you mention Mindo some drivers might drop you off right out the front of the office. Buying Tickets to Mindo There is only one company that does a direct bus service to and from Mindo 'Cooperativa Flor del Valle', sadly it's not very well signed if you don't know what your looking for. We knew the bus company so found the office pretty fast! The office you want is fourth from the end of a row of offices and has a little blue sign out the front reading 'coop. flor del valle' Please note, there are NO signs saying Mindo in any large enough font to read, you'll be wanting to look for the bus company, not the destination. The tickets cost $3.60 per person Time table as of July 2023 The Journey The bus we took left at 11am. The bus arrived right outside the office and we were able to board the bus 15 minutes early after a shout of 'Mindo, Mindo, Minnndoooo' from our driver. The bus left Exactly on time. Our bus had a few spare seats at the back but it filled up by picking up additional passengers on the way. The Journey takes 2-2.5 hours and is relatively easy. We have heard the winding roads can make people feel sick, but we didn't have any trouble! (If you get sick easily, ask to be seated near the front!) Arriving in Mindo The bus will arrive into the one and only bus station in Mindo (it's a pretty small town) this bus station isn't showing up on google maps as it's only been built in the last few years! The station sits right at the top of the hill at one end of the town so you should have an easy walk down hill to get to your accommodation. If your staying further away there will be a lot of Taxi's either right as you exit the bus or about 20 meters down the road! A taxi within a 10 minute drive of town shouldn't cost more than $3 or so. Enjoy your time in Beautiful Mindo!
