- LITHUANIA IS UNDERRATED (trying tradtitional food in Vilnius, Lithuania)
Fried bread and a potato dumplings are traditional Lithuanan foods. We know. We couldn't believe it either. We spent our first day in the snow eating incredible Lithuanian bagels from Beigelstai, trying to find warm clothes, exploring a winter forest and venturing into a totally seperate republic called Uzupis! We finished the day at a traditional Lithuanian restaurant called Etno Dvaras where we had fried bread with garlic sauce and one of the best dumplings we've ever had (INCLUDING OUR TIME SPENT IN ASIA) Vilnius, Lithuania you are an absolute treat and we WILL be returning! - Pegasus Airlines VS Ryan Air (Turkey to Lithuania travel day)
it was HALF the price to fly an inconvenient route with budget airlines. But with all the issues the airlines have been having, was it the best decision? Today we travel from Istanbul Turkey, through to London stansted and onto Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania! We fly with Pegasus airlines from Istanbul and connect onto a Ryan air flight. Both flights are on seperate tickets which means we need to collect and re-check our bags in stansted airport! It was a big day but this begins the tail end of our year we have the ambition to frolic in the snow and see some of the best Christmas markets in Europe! - FlixBus of Turkey (Turkey Bus from Antalya to Cappadocia)
Flixbus, but make it Turkish. We have spent countless hours on flix busses through Europe and intend to continue doing so through Christmas this year. But when we arrived in Turkey and were looking for the best Turkey bus. We were surprised to learn the flix bus operates here. We we're even more suprised to learn that even though you book through the flix bus website as usual, the brand of bus you will be riding is called Kamil Cok (Kâmil Koç). We thought we might make use of this long 9 hour bus from Antalya to Cappadocia and put together a review of the busses in Turkey! Watch full video here: #flixbus #turkey #travelvlog
- November 2022 | - $2902.90
So why record our expenses? We wrestled with the idea of spending all our money on experiences versus knuckling down at work in an attempt to set ourselves up for the future. Ultimately, we decided that houses can burn down, investments can be lost and money can be wasted but memories can never be taken from you. We wanted to solidify those memories by creating videos. But also wanted to show people a realistic view of what a full-time travel lifestyle would cost. When I went looking for something similar they were few and far between, so I wanted to do something for the next person who comes looking. And so, a terrible and laborious google sheet was born. It's since been updated many times and is much easier to manage. All of the data here is from that sheet. Where did the money come from? When we tell people that we are travelling full-time, they tend to have the same few comments. We must have wealthy parents who are paying for everything, or that we have come into inheritance or a lottery win or something else crazy. While we both acknowledge we are very privileged to be able to earn an income (and both have jobs unaffected by the pandemic) - all the money we have saved up has been solely from working at jobs that we held without any tertiary education. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed putting it together! What you came here for: Breakdown of what's below: Expenses YouTube Analytics Summary Expense Report Expense by category This is a quick reference category breakdown of our expenses. We spent almost all of November in Turkey and we're loving the more affordable accommodation options. So much so that we thought it wouldn't be a big deal to splurge for a very nice air bnb while we were spending our Workaction week in Kas. We don't regret it. The balcony was incredible and we enjoyed many days and nights looking over the water. What we didn't anticipate was our transport costs. $39.06 per day is absurd. But this does entail 4 flights (One of which we booked and didn't even take! - more on that later) All-in-all, in a country where we could have survived comfortable under the $100 a day target, im pretty dissapointed we overshot it. AGAIN. But I do realise that most of the transport expenses were somewhat out of our control and a big contributer to the cost! Accommodations Expenses November being spent in Turkey helped us a lot on the accommodation front. We were finding some great places for under $40 a night which sometimes included breakfast too (Shoutout to our Alicati hotel) but other times we knowingly spent more than we should have. Our Kas B Transport Expenses Things to note: The numbers are different to the 'Expenses by Category' Section. that's because in that section I use the Master sheet which includes small transports like Ubers, Grabs, Taxis and short cheap trains which I thought wouldn't add any value in this section! (I kept the total the same) Transport really messed us up in November. We thought we were doing great booking a flight to Germany for early November so we can get the best price in order to see the Christmas markets in Europe. Then we did our Schengen calculations and realised we didn't have enough days left and instead needed to stay in Turkey for longer. Althought our time in Turkey was incredible, the country is bigger than we expected so the busses were long and semi-expensive. We elected to rent a car when we werent travelling far and even decided to book an internal flight. (It was about $80 more than a bus would have been, but it meant we got an entire day back rather than spending it on a bus!) two more flights to then get us to Lithuania and the costs really do add up! Fixed Costs Insurance is expensive but worth it. Safety wing is our insurer of choice, they seemed to offer the most comprehensive cover especially when lots of countries needed specific types of insurance during the pandemic, they were great! Adobe is the software we used to edit our YouTube videos Epidemic sound is where we get all our music from, you can get a free trial with this link*: https://share.epidemicsound.com/i1nhpc Income Report Affiliate Income Amazon - No New clicks! Get your Guide - We have been fortunate enough to have a few people use our link to book experiences with Get Your Guides! this has resulted in income howvere as it is less than $50 we can't withdraw it yet. Happy for this one to keep going up slowly until we can claim it! (52 new clicks for november, no bookings) Viator - A great addition to our affiliate income has been a link we made to Viator from our Ha Long Bay cruise video. We are kicking ourselves that we didn't create this link earlier as we are sure we've missed out on some income. We even had someone click on our link and purcahse the same cruise we did which resulted in some commission - we need to wait until they complete the tour before we can withdraw and add it to our income report. But it's a great start! (2 clicks, no new bookings in November) Licensing Agreements No licensing this month, I'm hoping it wasn't a one time thing! YouTube Analytics Not a bad month with Youtube! We had a plan in October to do a big Bulgarian travel series which, if we are honest, worked really hard on and had pretty high expectations for. We thought through November would be the time those videos started to find some purchase but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Through all of November we were still bouyed by our Serbia food video and during this month it became our most watched video! We had minimal expectations so to see it take off like that was inspiring and confusing, but we arent complaining. The REAL puzzle is how to replicate it's success, so far we havent been able to hit the mark anywhere near as well as we did in Serbia but hopefully next month I'm writing about how against all odds our videos in Turkey had a big spike! Although i'm told that historically Decmber isn't a great month for it! We will see. Summary Final balance at the end of November Expenses: -$3,551.09 Income: +$648.19 Change - $2902.90 Thank you so much if you have read this far! and of course, for watching along! - Paradise in Türkiye (Kaş, Antalya)
The BLUEST and CLEAREST water we've ever seen! Kas is awesome. Even being here in Winter, there is so much to do! We explored the old town of Kas, climbed over another ancient theatre (Antiphellos theatre) went inside ancient Lycian tombs from 1500BC and even hiked our way through the bushes to a beach that you CANNOT access with a car called Limanağzı Plajı (Even if we did go the wrong way to begin with, whoops) Kaş is the kind of town that you will have a totally different experience in depending on the weather and it is ABSOLUTELY on the list to return to in the summer! Truly a paradise in Turkey Watch full video here: #kasturkey #antalya
- The PAMUKKALE they DON'T show you! (More than JUST thermal pools!)
HOW is this not common knowledge!!?? An entire ancient city (The ancient city of Hierapolis) sits just behind the famous Pamukkale thermal pools (Cotton Castle) Mind Boggling that it is completely over shadowed by the pools themselves. Don't get us wrong, the pools were cool, sometimes even too cool ❄😬 But the city is honestly not to be missed. We explored Hieropolis for hours and were mostly by ourselves the entire time! - We Were ALONE in EPHESUS (Selçuk, Türkiye)
It is such a privilege to be able to explore Ephesus alone! We started the day in Selcuk, Turkey but soon we're walking the ancient streets of Ephesus like it was 2000 years ago as the sun was coming up and painting the ancient stone golden. The library of Celsus was incredible and the ancient theatre took our breath away! of course, the dogs and cats of ephesus made an immediate and welcome appearance. Honestly, experiencing an ancient city with so much history by yourself really is a once in a lifetime thing! Watch full video here: #travelturkey #turkeyvlog #ephesus
- TRYING TRADITIONAL TURKISH FOOD (Alaçatı, Türkiye)
Turkish food is INCREDIBLE!! We are not saying that we had the real traditional Turkish breakfast but the addition of chips is so welcome! In this video we explore a gorgeous little seaside(ish) town of Alaçatı. Along the way we decided to use the off season of this town as a great excuse to instead dive into as much traditional Turkish food as we could. Admittedly we ran into some troubles and struggled to find a few things but overall we tried some of the best things including an incredible traditional Turkish breakfast (Maybe the best cultural breakfast in the world), Turkish coffee, Turkish pizza (Lahmacun) and finally the famous Bomba! We explored Alacati in the off season and it was great! but can see so many reasons why it would be INCREDIBLE in peak season! Watch full video here: #turkey #turkeyvlog #turkishfood
- HOW TO GET TO ANZAC COVE
How to get to Anzac Cove WITHOUT A TOUR or GUIDE! We couldn't find much information so hopefully this helps! Pleasantly surprised would be a massive understatement to describe our week in Çanakkale. WE LOVED IT! In this video we figure out how to get to ANZAC cove by ourselves during winter and without paying for a tour. turns out that it's not as easy as we thought! BUT there are some positives too. We also head back to Canakkale and try 3 things we had our eye on the whole time we were there! Watch full video here: #turkey #turkeyvlog #canakkale #anzaccove
- FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF ISTANBUL, TÜRKIYE
YOU NEED TO COME TO TURKEY!! We arrived by train into Türkiye yesterday and were amazed to realise we had timed it up perfectly to be able to experience Turkey republic day in Istanbul. There were already an incredible amount of Turkish flags in the streets but when we woke up the next day you couldn't open your eyes anywhere in Istanbul without seeing the iconic Turkish flag! We had so much fun running around this MASSIVE city and know that we just didn't do it justice. You could easily spend so much more time here but we loved the time we did have by trying simit, eating Pide for the first time, exploring the blue mosque and checking out the Grand bazaar at the PERFECT moment! We also had a beautiful walk along the Galata bridge! Watch full video here: #istanbulturkey #istanbulvlog #turkeyvlog #whattodoinistanbul
