  • Social Media and Youtube Analytics | July 2023

Hi There! Whether your creating online content with a dream to live nomadically or you're just curious about what a social media growth journey looks like, you're in the right place. This page has a lot of words, numbers and graphs so I hope I can make it as entertaining as possible while still providing the juicy stats you want. If you're after our income and expense report click here! This page might use acronyms, if you're unsure of what they are i'll include a definition glossary at the end. Jump to what you want: Youtube Analytics July was a crazy month! it started nice and steady. Our South America videos still didn't hit the mark (And haven't even still!) but our Rocky Mountaineer video kept on moving. It poured some gas on the fire and had a bit of an explosion moment that carried our views an income for July. We also have to give an honorable mention to our Tranfagarasan video from Romania as well as the old faithful Serbian Food who both had good sized contributions. Best performing Video (July) Obviously the Rocky Mountaineer video went a bit crazy for us and continued to bring in views and subscribers through July. Most of the viewers for this video are also based in America, Canada, Australia dn the UK so the CPM has been climbing too! Underperforming video (July) Our worst performing video for the month was a bit more of an information based video on catching a bus between Cartagena and Medellin (Two of the most tourist heavy cities in Colombia) We thought it would be a long term winner and tried to keep the retention a big focus. The retention focus cut the length all the way down to 6 minutes but alas, it wasn't to be. The video started slow and stayed slow. I won't write it off completely but it's unlikely he algorithm will pick this one up! Strategy change update We continued publishing Shorts to our main channel through some of July however we significantly reduced the amount toward the end of July as we got busy. Below you can see the breakdown of Long form VS Short form. We make sure to untick the 'Publish to subscribers' option when posting shorts so we don't annoy the long form chronological viewers. So this means that we have gained 45 Subscribers just from our shorts in June and if we can get even a few of those converted into long form viewers by having YouTube showing them our long form thumbnails, then it's definitely worth it! Youtube Financial Statistics (July) Last month I posted in here saying that in June we had both our Highest income month of $2,487.64 AND our highest income day of $139.17. Records are made to be broken though and in July we absolutely smashed it! Website Analytics We've continued to put in A LOT of behind the scenes effort into our website through July. We made the decision to move from Wix to Wordpress for design and functionality reasons but that also means learning a whole new system. Which we're only really getting the hang of now. We hope you'll be reading the next months Analytics report on the new website! Website search engine optimisation (SEO) We've continued to try and improve upon our SEO but since we are in the process of moving over to Wordpress this is going to look a lot different soon! We are getting notified every so often that we have had a few people find our site through google search which is fantastic and I hope that continues! Website page Indexing Our page indexing (Which is the number of pages we have that are actually listed on google) has risen again. Like i said earlier, we ended up getting pretty busy through the end of July and kind of stopped asking google to index our pages. PLUS moving everything to the new website means it might not be worthwhile anyway! Website page load speed We are straight up not having a good time with our load speed and performance for our website. Specifically viewing on the mobile. Sorry if this page loads horribly slow!! Again, we have decided to put our energy into building the new site rather than fixing this one so hopefully all these speed issues will be a thing of the passed in my August report! Instagram Analytics The world of instagram is another place we havent really explored too much. we've made a few reels and posts that have done okay but we never really had a clear vision or any consisteny until recently. In July our instagram reached 6378. Which is a MoM drop of 21.1%. We didn't post anywhere near as much as we did in June so this is understandable. Our followers grew from 844 at the beggining of July to 1004 at the beginning of August! which is MORE than June, deposite reaching less accounts! thats a growth of 160 followers (186 new followers - 26 who stopped) but where it sounds much more impressive is a month on month growth rate of 18% We definitely fell a little bit off the wagon with our posting on instagram and hope to get back onto it through August but we really don't know. We are behind in our editing schedule adn this new website build is a long process! TikTok Analytics 'Throw anything and everything at the wall and see what sticks' is the method we subscribe to for TikTok. It seems to have no real rhyme or reason so we are repurposing as much as we can. We seemed to continue to be sliding backwards over the course of July and have come to rest JUST above 7000 followers. Hopefully we can post a few more things to stay clear of that mark! Youtube Shorts Analytics When we get busy, the first thing to fall off is the shorts channel. We're okay with that. Sometimes I do think we're splitting our focus over a few too many platforms/channels so i'm okay with litting this one go.. Facebook Analytics Facebook is another place that we want to put more effort into but it has definitely been put on the back burner for July. We did grow in our page visits thanks to the Rocky Mountaineer tagging our page in one fo the videos we made for them! (It got almost a million views on Facebook somehow!) but i tonly resulted in 10 page likes of growth! Summary July was insane! We have our best YouTube month ever but also had most other platforms decline. We are definitely still trying to find the balance of managing so many different things at the same time. I think it's okay to let some things fall away if it means a higher level of mental health and our main focus being succesfful! Thanks for reading our social Media and Youtube Analytics report! If you want to check out how much everything costed in July, click here! Glossary of terms CPM - 'Cost per Mille' This is the cost an advertiser will pay YouTube per 1000 views. It fluctuates through a number of factors, the biggest two being location the ad is viewed from and type of ad. E.G. Finance videos get finance ads that are more expensive. A viewer from a wealthier country is more expensive than less wealthier countries. RPM - 'Revenue per mille' Is the amount of money you will take home as Adsense after Youtube has taken it's cut from the CPM. AVD - 'Average view duration' The average time spent viewing your video generally represented as a % CTR - 'Click through rate' This is a % of people who click on your thumbnail when shown MoM - Month on Month Impression - Amount of times your thumbnail has been shown to a potential audience

  • Full Time Travel Budget | July 2023

Buenas días from Quito, Ecuador! (again) We've spent July running around and seeing some great parts of Ecuador. The cloud forest Mindo, The Quilotoa Loop, The waterfalls of Banos and we even spent the last 5 days in the Amazon jungle! All this to say, you would think our budget to be a mess. Slumped on a stool in the corner of the ring, bloody and bruised with towel on it's head. But no! our budget stands in the centre with it's gloves thrust in the air because, in the month of July...... we. made. profit. As is the new normal, this will deep dive into where we put our pennies and i'll reserve all the analytic reporting to another post, if your interested in that, you can find it here. Expense Report Categorys This is a quick reference category breakdown of our expenses. Our expenses for July were under control for a lot of reasons but these are the big two. First, the Average nightly spent for accommodation we managed to keep under $36 Aud per night. Second, our food spending was SO under control. We stayed for a few extra days in Air BnB's which allowed us to buy food in bulk and cook. Meaning our average spend per day on food was UNDER $18 AUD (Thanks to a LOT of no spend days!) Accommodations Expenses We have been staying in places a litle longer than usual in July which has allowed us to save some money on cleaning expenses etc. Really happy with how July finished! * You'll notice some complimentary nights stay in July, rest-assured we only accept the conditions of the nights stay if we are allowed to create our own videos from our own experience. We will never accept anything complimentary if we have to give a favourable review over an honest one. The Sani lodge was in need for some Drone footage and other Marketting that we were happy to supply for them in exchange forthe experience! We try to use Trusted house sitters as much as possible because its amazing and you can get a 20% discount through this link: trustedhousesitters.pxf.io/jordanemily20 Use code: JORDANEMILY20 at checkout! Transport Expenses Things to note: The numbers are different to the 'Expenses by Category' Section. that's because in that section I use the Master sheet which includes small transports like Ubers, Grabs, Taxis and short cheap trains which I thought wouldn't add any value in this section! (I kept the total the same) We spent a lot of July in Quito as you can tell. This meant that a big lot of our transport expenses were made up of Taxi's and Ubers. Buses in Ecuador are super affordable and we we're paying less than $10 per person for every trip, with the exception of the big journey down to Coca! Fixed Costs Insurance is expensive but worth it. Safety wing is our insurer of choice, they seemed to offer the most comprehensive cover especially when lots of countries needed specific types of insurance during the pandemic, they were great! - Unforauntely coming to America meant we had to increase our coverage which immediately doubled the price. But it's just something you Need to have. Adobe is the software we used to edit our YouTube videos. Epidemic sound is where we get all our music from, you can get a free trial with this link*: https://share.epidemicsound.com/i1nhpc Income Report Affiliate Income Licensing Agreements No licensing this month, It's getting more likely that what we got in Vietnam was a one time thing! Brand Deals/Savings Partnered stays: Sani Lodge in the Amazon Jungle | 4 Nights Youtube This entire breakdown of this months Youtube analytics and income section has been moved into it's own more detailed social media page! Check it out here. Website This is our second month earning adsense income from our website. It's a lot less than last month but we've dedicated a lot of time over July trying to build a new website that will look and feel lots better. Hopefully you'll be reading the August budget report on there! Summary This is insane! We we're in the jungle when we realised that our Youtube Income will actually be higher than our expenses this month! We know this isn't something that can continue and we've already seen a big dip of income on the last few days of July. But we have to celebrate sucha monumental win! Thank you so much for reading our Full Time Travel Budget and of course, for watching along! If you're hunting for the Analytics section that is usually at the end it's now been moved to a larger house with more detail and more platforms. Click here for the redirect! • How to get to Mindo Ecuador by bus - Full Guide

Mindo is a must see city just outside of Quito. It's considered one of only 736 cloud forests in the world and is a tranquil wonderland. There's nature lurking around every corner and huge waterfall hikes to do. But how do you get there? When we were looking to take a bus from Quito to Mindo we couldnt find much information about the Journey online, so i've decided to throw one together! This is our How to get to Mindo, Ecuador by bus - Full Guide. Getting to the right bus station There are 3 main bus stations in quito and countless others dotted around the giant city. The one you'll need to get to is called 'Terminal La Ofelia' This is a decent sized bus terminal in the North of the city that serves both local and national lines. An Uber from Historic Centro costs about $5-$7 USD depending on time and if you mention Mindo some drivers might drop you off right out the front of the office. Buying Tickets to Mindo There is only one company that does a direct bus service to and from Mindo 'Cooperativa Flor del Valle', sadly it's not very well signed if you don't know what your looking for. We knew the bus company so found the office pretty fast! The office you want is fourth from the end of a row of offices and has a little blue sign out the front reading 'coop. flor del valle' Please note, there are NO signs saying Mindo in any large enough font to read, you'll be wanting to look for the bus company, not the destination. The tickets cost $3.60 per person Time table as of July 2023 The Journey The bus we took left at 11am. The bus arrived right outside the office and we were able to board the bus 15 minutes early after a shout of 'Mindo, Mindo, Minnndoooo' from our driver. The bus left Exactly on time. Our bus had a few spare seats at the back but it filled up by picking up additional passengers on the way. The Journey takes 2-2.5 hours and is relatively easy. We have heard the winding roads can make people feel sick, but we didn't have any trouble! (If you get sick easily, ask to be seated near the front!) Arriving in Mindo The bus will arrive into the one and only bus station in Mindo (it's a pretty small town) this bus station isn't showing up on google maps as it's only been built in the last few years! The station sits right at the top of the hill at one end of the town so you should have an easy walk down hill to get to your accommodation. If your staying further away there will be a lot of Taxi's either right as you exit the bus or about 20 meters down the road! A taxi within a 10 minute drive of town shouldn't cost more than $3 or so. Enjoy your time in Beautiful Mindo!

  • Cartagena Colombia - The Pirate city of Colombia

🇨🇴 Cartagena Colombia sits on the Colombian coast and certainly has the quintessential Colombian vibe you probably associate with Colombia. The stunning city is considered the main pirate city of Cartagena and turns an insane golden colour as the sun sets. Beers on the wall that was built to keep pirates out in the 1700's is an aboslute must do for your South America bucket list. • Colombia to Ecuador by bus (complete border crossing guide)

What this Colombia to Ecuador by bus guide includes: How to get to the border town of Ipiales Why you need to see Ipiales Exiting Colombia Border crossing things to know (Safety, Check mig, Currency exchange) Entering Ecuador (Including Yellow fever vaccine details) How to get to Quito OKAY! let's go to Ecuador! Step one: Get yourself to the border town of Ipiales Unfortauntely there are no longer direct buses that will take you from major cities in Colombia to another city in Ecuador. This aparently used to be the case but since the Covid-19 protocals came into efect they seem to have ceased completely and getting from Colombia to Ecuador by bus has become a little bit more difficult. (This actually isn't a bad thing, and I'll tell you why later) Ipiales is known as the safest border between Colombia and Ecuador and as such there is a vast network of buses connecting the town to the rest of Colombia. For the size of the town the bus terminal is decently big. Most people making their way to Ipiales will be coming from Cali as it's the closest of the big cities that are typically on the well-trodden tourist path. There are two choices to get from Cali to Ipiales the bus we took Boliviarno and another dedicated route called Transipiales If your using Busbud.com or Bookaway.com be warned that all the buses might not show up on the website until a few days before departure, especially the Transipiales. We booked the 10 hour 10 pm departure Boliviarno bus and it was unfortunately the worst nights sleep we had on a bus! Step two: Stay in Ipiales overnight (Optional) The bus arrived in Ipiales on time at roughly 8am in the morning. This meant that if you were wanting to continue through straight into Ecuador it was certainly possible. however this does mean getting to the border after 9 or 10am (And that's IF your overnight bus was on time) We strongly suggest instead spending a night (or two) in Ipiales. We spent two nights in the San Jose Hotel which is located right next to the bus terminal and let us check in straight away! We decided on two nights because we werent in a rush and we wanted desperately to see the biggest attraction in Ipiales. It's not often a border town has something so magnificaent but we HAD to check out Las Lajas sanctuary and we HIGHLY recommend you do the same. We woke up early the following day in order to try to see the cathedral with minimal people and ti was definitely worth it. Step Three: Exiting Colombia When you've explore Ipiales (or not) you need to make your way to the Ecuador-Colombia border at Rumichaca bridge. A taxi will set you back 12,000 pesos or you can catch a collectivo from the bus terminal for around 4,000 pesos per person. We highly recommend getting a taxi because you can get straight there and don't have to wait for a collectivo to fill up! (San Jose Hotel front desk can call you a taxi) The taxi should drop you off on the Colombian side. You'll note there is nothing physically stopping you from just crossing the bridge into Ecuador and sometimes the taxi will drop you off on the Ecuador side of the bridge. it's imperative you line up to get an exit stamp from Colombia before trying to enter Ecuador, otherwise you'll be stuck in lines for hours longer than you need to be. The exit line might be BEHIND where the Taxi drops you off. The line moves pretty slowly and we had about 20 people in front of us when we arrived at 7:30am. Colombian locals are prioritised and continuously pulled out of the line and pushed to a different office, don't be alarmed! It took us 50 minutes to be seen but when we left the office at the line had grown to easily 50 people. The border is open 24/7 so if we we're to do the crossing again we'd aim to reach the checkpoint before 7am. Things to know about the border: Check Mig - The check mig immigration form is required to enter Colombia and exit Colombia. You'll see that written all over various blog posts and official websites. When we tried to do ours the website and app would not let us select border crossing at all. Only air travel was available for us so we pretty anxious when approaching the desk. Although we couldn't confirm verbally, it seems as if the check mig is not a requirement if you are leaving via a land border anymore. Even though there were signs and tv's showcasing the check mig process we werent asked at all and we were in and out of the office in less than 2 minutes! Money exchange - At the border you'll see upwards of 10 people standing around with big wads of USD in their hands offering you to exchange your Pesos. From everything we read, it's best to avoid doing this at the border as the rate can be horrific. Safety at the border - We spent a month in Colombia in and out of cities with bad reputations. We never felt as uncomfortable as we did at the border. Nothing happened and we were never directly intimidated or threatened but there was a big fight near the shops down the side eventually having outnumbered police drawing their guns. We had also read to avoid buying anything at the border due to the risk of being robbed and even poisoned. Like I said, we directly had no trouble and it was the local shop keepers fighting amongst themselves so bottom line, put your head down, be smart and don't go to the shops. You'll be fine. Step Four: Entering Ecuador Once you've got your exit stamp you can leave Colombia by walking accross the famous Rumichaca bridge. There is a walk way I what feels like the middle of the road. You'll pass all the way to the end and turn right. (Unfortunately we don't have photos of this bit because there were multiple people out the front of the immigration desk and I didn't want to look like I was taking their photo! sorry) On your right hand side there is a big building that wasn't that well signed but keep walking through and eventually you'll enter the immigration office where there will be people lining up. With any luck there will be people in front of you that you can follow to this point! Again, you'll read online on blogs and official websites that if you've been in Colombia you will NEED a yellow fever vaccine to enter the Ecuador. We were super sillly and simply forgot to get ours while we were in Colombia so had no vaccine or any certificates. Fortunately the only things we were asked when we were trying to enter Ecuador was what our occupation was! (it's a lot easier to just say our old jobs of real estate and banking than trying to explain YouTube!) We managed to get a completely free vaccine while we were in Quito and if you havent got yours yet read THIS post to find out how! Step Five: Getting to Quito We've been in Quito for 2 days now and it is stunning. The architecture in the old centre is insane and the people are SO nice. We highly recommend getting here. That said, there are a couple of options to get to Quito from the Colombian/Ecuador border. Every so often there is apparently a big bus that leaves the border and can take you the 5-6 hours to Quito. However it's more common and available all day to get a bus from the Ecuadorian border town of Tulcan. This means jumping in a taxi to Tulcan which will cost 4 USD or 20,000 COP (Great way to get rid of your excess pesos) Once in Tulcan be prepared to be harassed like you've never been harrassed before. As soon as the cab pulls in people are opening your door trying to take your luggage and get you on their bus. It was a great anger management test for me as I pretty much ended up shouting 'No Gracias' and pushing through the crowd. When we finally got our bearings (We had to move accross the car park from the bus terminal just to get away from the yelling and grabbing) We got some cash out from the ATM there and picked a bus company that was leaving in the next two minutes. The bus ticket cost us $7USD per person and it was a pretty comfortable ride. We made it to the Quito bus station at around 3pm and caught a $10 USD taxi to our air bnb. I got no photos of the Tulcan bus experience but I WAS filming the entire border crossing day so if your reading this a few weeks in the future we probably have a video about the full border crossing on our YouTube channel!

  • FREE Yellow Fever Vaccine in Quito

Getting the proper vaccines to travel in South America is imperative! unfortauntely at home in Australia the vaccine can be expensive ($130 - $170 AUD) and can get REALLY expensive in other countries like America ($170 - $200 USD). So when we found out you can get a FREE yellow fever vaccine in Quito. We we're determined to figure it out! I wanted to put all the details into a blog post so there are no excuses for anyone who comes through quito! So, this is how you do it!. Step one: Find the right hospital The Hospital in Quito you want to go to in order to get the FREE yellow fever vaccine is called 'Health Center No 1' and it's located right near the old historic centre (The prettiest part of quito!) With any luck you'll be staying close by. It was only a 15 minute walk for us! When you arrive you'll be greated by a big facade that would be considered pretty gorgeous if it wasnt surrounded by stunning architecture. To enter the hospital you will need to have a face mask on. If you've forgotten to bring yours along (like we did) there will likely be a nice man out the front selling them for 25c each! Step Two: Register for your Vaccine Once you get in the building head straight up the stairs to the third floor. Once on the 3rd floor take a left until you see a building with a sign that reads 'Sala Situational' This is where you will register. Wait patiently out the front for someone to colect you. Vaccines start by 7:30am and it tends to get really busy after 9am so try and get their as early as possible. We arrived at 8:30 and had to wait about 20 minutes. After you've been shown into the ofice you'll sit down and need to present some documents. Namely your passport. The hospital wll also collect the address of where your staying in Quito as well as the best contact number for the property. This is ALL communicated in Spanish as there isn't much English known in the hospital so best come prepared! Two useful spanish phrases for the day: Yellow fever vaccine: 'vacuna contra la fiebre amarilla' International certificate: 'certificado internacional' Registration only takes about 5 minutes, afterward you collect your passport and head downstairs to the second floor. Step Three: Get the Vaccine Right in front of the second floor stairs you'll see big signs saying 'Vacunas' as well as a lot of images of needles! This is where you'll get the jab. Outside the room there are a mix of people waiting to recieve the vaccine as well as those who have just recieved theirs and are waiting for some mandatory observation so it's best to just do a little knock on the door and politely let them know you're also waiting for a vaccine. (This feels rude and like your pushing in but if you just sit and wait theres a chance you won't be noticed at all) Once it's your turn, hand over your passport once again and you'll be asked if you need an 'International certificate' you definitely do, that's the only way to prove you've actually had the Vaccine so you certainly need it. Then you'll be shown to the small room where the injection happens. Suprisingly it was the most painless one we've ever had. Once stabbed you are directed to wait outside once again before being called into collect your passports. You check your named and passport on the certificate is correct, sign it and then sign their paper stating you've recieved it and your good to go! THAT'S IT! you just recieved the Free yellow fever vaccine in Quito and can worry less about those pesky mosquitos! Oh and you also saved $170USD! #yellowfevervaccine #freevaccine #quito #ecuador

  • Full Time Travel Budget | June 2023

Buenas días from Quito, Ecuador! We arrived in Ecuador yesterday after a quick stop in the Colombian border town of Ipiales to see the STUNNING Las Lajas Sanctuary. Definitely worth the stop over if you're doing an overland border crossing. We've just arrived at our Air BnB where we'll be spending the next 5 nights Working, Celebrating my 30th and exploring the capital of Ecuador! Small note, if you've come here for Analytics - I've decided to go even deeper into it and include more social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok so it's become too big to fit here. It now lives on it's own page Social Media and Youtube Analytics June 2023 page. Expense Report Accommodations Expenses Accommodation can fluctuate madly in Colombia and we learnt some lessons this month. Some of the best places we stayed were $25 a night, while some of the worst nights sleep we had were the most expensive! our long stretch in the nice apartment in Cali for $25 per night really helped us get our average down and we really regret forking out $60 a night for a place that literally had holes in the wall haha we could hear all the street noise! * You'll notice some complimentary nights stay in June, rest-assured we only accept the conditions of the nights stay if we are allowed to create our own videos from our own experience. We will never accept anything complimentary if we have to give a favourable review over an honest one. (I kept the total the same) June included another 2 overnight buses. One was great and we made a full video about getting from Cartagena to Medellin with expreso brasilia. The second one was from Cali to Ipiales with Bolivariano and we are still sore from that. My (almost) 30 year old back did not hold up well and Emily's neck is still sore enough to be causing headaches! I thought I would include expected time vs actual time and i'm excited to see how these change as we move into new South American countries. Website This is a new one for us! we finally put some ads on our website and started to post useful and interesting content, hopefully we can see this as a steady income from here on out! Summary Even though we had a little bit of a disappointing month for our affiliate conversions it's a great sign that the clicks are still increasing month to month! We are ecstatic to say we reached a milestone of over $1000 income from Youtube for the month! Hopefully this is sign of things to come as we continue to move around South America until November! • Social Media and Youtube Analytics | June 2023

Hi Guys! Welcome to this brand new page! Whether your creating online content with a dream to live nomadically like us or you're just curious what a social media growth journey looks like, you're in the right place. This page has a lot of words, numbers and graphs so I hope I can make it as entertaining as possible while still providing the juicy stats you want. This page might use acronyms, if you're unsure of what they are i'll include a definition glossary at the end. Jump to what you want: Youtube Analytics June was as interesting of a month as we've ever had on Youtube. We had expected a significant income fall off from May as we were moving into South America which has a lower CPM. What we didn't account for is that the videos we released through Canada and America would have a very steady view stream and rather than our South America content commanding a local audience, the North American audience seems to have stuck around! Best performing Video (June) Our Rocky Mountaineer video which we still use as our channel trailer has continued to bring in views and subscribers through June and it seems that those viewers also had interest in our other videos like New York and Washington! Underperforming video (June) Our worst performing video for the month were our first 2 to be released in South america. Both our 'Bogota first impressions' and this 'Colombia food tour' It was a little bit dissapointing as usually food tours tend to start things off for the local viewers of a country. Nevertheless it's techinically only been on the platform for 18 days and if Youtube has taught us anything, a video can pick up views at ANY point! Strategy change After joining a like minded group of people also making YouTube content, we decided that for the month of June we would have a little bit of a stratergy change with our channel and re-introduced high quality shorts when we could. These are shorts that we have put extra effort into or that have performed well accross any of our other platforms. Having these repurposed short form content means the number of content pieces we posted in June is pretty different than usual. There is one unfortunate downside to shorts though. If we have an automtic ending card on our long form content like 'Best for viewer' - Youtube seems to always think the best video for the viewer is a short. Meaning we are moving viewers from long form to short form and wasting an impression spot at the end of every video. We can go in and manually change those recommended videos and we have been, but hopefully youtube eventually comes out with an option to 'best for view long form only' or something. that would be the best! Financial Statistics (June) Not only did we have our highest income month in our YouTube history for June but we also had our Highest individual day of $52.31. To but that into perspective, thats over 50% of our daily budget. If that's something we can repeat we would have effectively DOUBLED the length of this adventure. It's still a far cry from our sustainability goal but it's a bloody good dent! Website Analytics We've had a website for about a year now but havent really been using it properly. we've made a few blog posts and published these reports here but other than that it was kind of deserted. Recently, we've put more effort into the site by trying to figure out SEO and Site speed as well as changing the design and adding more posts. We also added our first google ads on the pages (sorry) which has contributed a small trickle to our income. Let me break down what we've learnt: Website design change First thing we did when we realised we were making a bit of money from the site (Even if it is usually only 1c a day!) was to try and optimise it! We deleted the auto-video play that used to happen at the header of the website and tried to optimise all of the images used by both manually compressing them AND running them through a JPEG compressor online. We also added a 'call to action' in the form of a 'Follow our adventures' button in the hopes that that link will mean the website will act as a funnel for our YouTube. Website search engine optimisation (SEO) We've also dived pretty deeply into trying to SEO our website, which has a lot of factors (A lot more than I thought) but one of the biggest things is Key Words. Our website builder Wix has an SEO assistant tool that makes it pretty clear what needs to be done. Effectively the title needs to represent the key word, so does the body of the text and the meta description. All of which can be edited using the assistant which makes life so much easier! Website page Indexing The third and arguably biggest thing we did was make sure our blog post pages can actually be found on google. Effectively you can create the best page ever but if google doesnt add it to it's massive catalog, it won't be found. They call this 'Indexing' and when we first found this to check we realised only 5 of our pages were actualled 'indexed' meaning only 5 pages were discoverable on Google! Crazy. We figured out how to go into the google console and request google to index individual pages this can take anywhere from 2 days to a number of weeks. This also doesn't mean google WILL add it to the index but it at least attempts it. In June we grew from 5 pages indexed to 59! I have a sneaking suspicion that making sure your pages are indexed are 40% of the SEO job people do for you if you pay them for SEO on a website like fiver! Website page load speed The fourth thing we did was actually start measuring our site speed and performance. Google doesn't like to show slow pages in top search results so we did what we could. We compressed images, deleted widgets and auto-plays and deleted entire pages that werent necessary! we have 3 high scores but an overal performance on Mobile really low (Still trying to figure that out) But our Desktop score when we first checked was FILLED with red and numbered in the 30's. Also these scores change all the time (Our desktop performance rating fluctuates between 70 and 90) so we take each rating with a grain of salt. Instagram Analytics The world of instagram is another place we havent really explored too much. we've made a few reels and posts that have done okay but we never really had a clear vision or any consisteny until recently. In June our instagram reached 8035 accounts despite having less than 1000 followers! Our followers grew from 724 at the beggining of May to 844 at the beginning of June, thats a growth of 120 followers but where it sounds much more impressive is a month on month growth rate of 14% We also decided to switch up our Bio to send a clear message of who we are and what our offer is as well as create another pretty obvious funnel to our Youtube because that's ultimately where we want everyone to go! While our feed is definitely not an aesthetic one like a lot of those big creators are i think we've kind of found a bit of consistency in our content calendar. We mostly post a comboination of these three things: - Static posts (Generally information or 10 photos from our last month or last destination) - Reels (what we spent in a city, country, month or overall) - Stories (Almost up to date real time updates) TikTok Analytics 'Throw anything and everything at the wall and see what sticks' is the method we subscribe to for TikTok. It seems to have no real rhyme or reason so we are repurposing as much as we can, not really keeping any schedule and posting all over the place! We grew on Tiktok from 6990 at the end of May all the way up to 7045 but then the last 2 weeks of June our followers started going down. Honestly, no rhyme or reason to tiktok! We have updated our bio to make it more clear about who we are and also try and create a bit of a funnel to out YouTube. If we are having 1000 people a month viewing our profile we need to make it as clear as possible that our long form content is where we really live and it's just a click away! v Youtube Shorts Analytics There is a big debate about whether you should have your shorts and long form content on the same channel and the answer is still kind of unknown. We've seen people succeed with them together and we've seen others have no real positive impact. The theory goes: Shorts subsribers may not watch long form content, so Youtube could be wasting an impression on a shorts subscriber and therefore negatively impacting CTR. We're still not sure about it all so we are posting shorts we deem of high quality on our main channel while still repurposing older content or lower quality short form content on our shorts channel called 'Jordan and Emily shorts' These are Non chronological travel snack packs aaaaand that's exactly what we post. We are still scheduled for a post per day until July 6ths to see if consistency alone can get the job done but i'd imagine without big effort it's hard to expect big results. The shorts channel has the most random spikes. These three videos all performed well and one went absolutely bananas and got 151,000 plays! what's even more interesting is it's individual analytics! It took 45 days for it to just randomly explode, without any rhymeor reason. We actually hadnt even opened our shorts channel in months and when we checked back we had 400 subs and this litle beauty. So confusing! Facebook Analytics Big shout out to SimsONthego for this. We never really considered using facebook but after we were told by Sam and Nick about how they have success with it, we wanted to give it a try! We grew from 30 followers (That we didn't even know we had) up to 36 by repurposing some content we thought might do well on Facebook. While we will continue to post on Facebook periodically we don't look at it as a main source of exposure or a main funnel for our YouTube channel. Summary The month of June was full of hard work and lots of little tweeks accross multiple platforms. It's super nice to see it be rewarded with our best Youtube income month ever.. Even if a lot of the effort was techinically accross different platforms haha. If you want to see more detail about our income from these platforms as well as everything we've spent head over to our Income and Expense report for June. This took be about 4 hours to put together so i hope you had some enjoyment or satisfied some of your curiousity by reading it! Thanks for reading our social Media and Youtube Analytics report!
