  • What to do in Santa Marta (24 hours in Colombia's Oldest City)

We had dreams of exploring Tayrona national park but we happeend to plan our trip at the worst possible time! the Park was closed so instead we decided to spend 24 hours in Santa Marta! Santa Marta is Colombia's Oldest City and yet most of the blog post about what to do in Santa Marta tell you to leave it. We spent the day walking around the colourful streets, down the esplanade (Malecón de Bastidas). Too cool off from the Caribbean heat we hung out in Simon Bolivar Park (Parque Bolivar) before heading to the local market to see if we could find some bathers for our upcoming trip to Cartagena! We tried our first ever Menu Del Dia or menu of the day and we are officially obsessed! There is no better way to end the day in Santa Marta than with a sunset beer on the beach! watch full video here: #santamarta #colombiatravel #colombiatravelguide #whattodoinsantamarta

  • What to do in Colombia (Villa de Leyva or Barichara)

After spending two nights at such a gorgeous mountain accommodation, we werent ready to head back to a big city so instead we set our sights on Colombia's Colonial Towns. If your wondering what to do in Colombia, look no further! In this video we explore two of the cutest colonial towns in Colombia. Villa de Leyva is known for its whitewashed colonial architecture, HUGE town square. We were lucky enough to be visiting on the weekend so got to check out the Saturday Market. Jordan ate what we call 'milk breakfast soup!' and we even went to the chocolate museum! Barichara has been referred to as Colombia's most beautiful town! It is a tiny colonial town about a half hour bus from San Gil There isn't a tonne to do in Barichara so we spent the day wandering the streets, visiting the cemetery and eating delicious food. watch full video here: #colombiatravel #colombiatravelguide #baricharacolombia #villadeleyvacolombia

  • How to get to Salento from Medellin

We tried to find information about how to get to Salento from Medellin by bus online for a while and while there were some good sources, most were outdated. so we thought we'd make out own! You've decided to go to Salento which is probably a great idea (Spoiler, it is) so you already know how good it is, im not going to go into it and instead get straight to the facts! Booking your bus tickets There are 2 options to get your tickets to Salento. The first option is to just show up at the Terminal Del Sur bus station and buy them there. The second and more popular among tourists is to book the tickets online. Whichever you choose you'll pay the same price. If you are booking online you will either use Bookaway.com or busbud.com both of these also reflect an identical price BUT we recommend using busbud wherever possible because it allows you to choose your seats. We had multiple people randomly seperated who had booked on Bookaway.com or in person! There are 3 departures from the Medellin Terminal del Sur station at 9:15, 2pm and 9pm. The most popular route is the 2pm but we opted for the 9:15. Arriving at the Terminal del Sur bus terminal When you arrive you head inside and follow the 'Transport box office' signs all the way through to the Flota Occidental desk. There you present your booking and passport and they'll print you some paper tickets and let you know where the bus will pick up. Getting on the bus The bus boards through the south gate which is right around the corner from the ticket office. You show your ticket and move through metal detectors and into a sort of waiting lounge. Theres no point heading outside and waiting by the bus as they seem to usher everyone back inside to check tickets there before boarding the bus (Usually in Colombia they check them as you board, this was different) once your onboard you can find your seat and depending on the bus you will get a small, medium or large bus. We got the medium sized bus which was pretty new and actually had WORKING tv screens with movies and games. The seats reclined a bit but i wouldnt characterise the seats as big. There was also no toilets on this or the small bus. We settled in for the ride. The Journey to Salento You'll notice the tickets might say 'Medellin - Pereira, Pereira-Salento' which we thought might indicate the need to change buses in the Near Salento town of Pereira. Thankfully we didn't and we rode the bus the whole way. The Journey is supposed to be 6 hours but as with any bus in Colombia you need to allow at least 30% extra time. The bus took us 8 hours total. We stopped extensively in traffic 3 times at which some people took the opportunity to relieve themselves in the bushes by the side of the road. Our first REAL stop happened at 13:50, thats 4.5 hours into the journey so make sure you don't need the bathroom when you board! The stop was a good one and had multiple restaurants and stores as well as a free toilet that was big and seemed to be cleaned regularly. We were there for almost exactly 30 minutes. Arriving in Salento We continued on the bus and arrived in Pereira at 16:10 where we stopped for 10 minutes, some people got off, some got on and some tickets were checked once again. From there it was only another hour of driving we arrived at the Salento terminal which was only a quick 10 minute walk uphill into the iconic town square of Salento.

  • We made it to America! 🇺🇸 (Jordan and Emily Travel Newsletter #6!)

howdy from USA - this weeks travel newsletter is coming to you from Seattle, Washington! newsletter sent: March 6, 2023 at 5:04PM get our newsletters sent to your inbox the day it's sent - sign up by clicking here! week in review We have been in the states for ? days now and are having a great (cc: expensive!) time! Our travel day from Australia to America ended up WAY more exhausting than we expected. We flew ADL-SYD-LAX-PDX and wow was I pooped after! We checked into a over budget airbnb and somehow stayed up till 9pm (cc: I napped at 6pm) before crashing. We did *technically* film our travel day but we talked about our first full year on YouTube and how much money we have made along the way! We used to (cc: still do) love watching these videos and find it so nuts that we made any money at all from making these crazy memories all over the world! next week We are at an AMAZING housesit in Seattle at the moment and have plans to film 2 videos this week. Did you know Seattle, as we know it today, is actually version 3 of the city?! and there is an entire underground city beneath the current verison?! WHAT! They also have some...interesting food for us to try! Like a hotdog X bagel mix 🤔 behind the scenes Our first week in Portland we SMASHED out editing some 'come pack with me' tiktoks and have been posting there really consistantly! We even had one video hit 300K! Not only that but we are up to date(ish) on editing YouTube videos AND somewhat booked ahead! Speaking of, we knew the States was going to be bonkers expensive but WOW is it on another level. We have been lucky to get a few housesits so far which is evening things out but dang I'm excited to get to South America and ease up on the spending. recommendations I am full on obsessed with the Aussie TV show Colin From Accounts. I watched four episodes on our flight from SYD-LAX instead of sleeping and have been trying to figure out how to watch it here ever since. social pipes & shameless plugs ☕️ Support us directly here 🚀 check out our website! 📸 want to know what gear we use? check out here! p.s please reply to this with any feedback, comments or questions! ☺️

  • Where to stay in Colombia (unique accommodation)

Bogota is too busy and we've been there for 10 days. We needed a change of pace so we packed up our things and journeyed into the Colombia mountains! This unique accommodation was one of our favourites of all time, getting into nature where all we could hear were the animals and rain on the roof was so peaceful. In this video we will do a FULL TINY HOME TOUR and show you what it's like to live in Colombia's BEST AirBnB for two days. Something we highly recommend whether you're travelling long term or just need a break for a few days. Here's a link to their amazing place! • Colombian food tour in Bogota (we tried Chicha, Colombias illegal drink!)

🇨🇴 Theres CHEESE in EVERYTHING!! Trying traditional Colombian food on our own DIY Colombian food tour was always going to happen. We didn't realise that different regions in Colombia had such different sorts of foods. Today we are in Bogota where they add cheese to almost everything (Including their ice cream) and we are eating our way around this huge city. We also try a drink that was made illegal by the government decades ago! It's pretty safe to say with a country this diverse this will NOT be our last food tour day in Colombia. watch full video here: #colombiafood #colombiafoodtour #bogotafood #whatdoeatinbogota

  • The ultimate Portland Food Tour

Portland was our very first stop in America and apparently we were hungry. The first thing we did was scour the internet for all of the Portland Oregon 'must eats' We ended up creating a list that's turned into the ultimate portland food tour (DIY style) We didn't know until we started making the list that Portland Oregon is one of the foodie capitals of America. As a result, this tour took us to all different neighbourhoods and trying so many different styles of cuisine. Hope you enjoy! Also, if you hate reading, we made an Vlog about this day too. Click here! Stop one: Breakfast at Pine State Biscuits $$$ We had heard that the Southern style chicken from pine state biscuits was a must for our tour, so we put it in the number 1 spot. While we have never had biscuits like these at home (Even a Mcdonalds 'Bicsuit' is called a muffin in Australia) and found them to be a little bit dry and crumbly, the chicken really saved it. It was such a juicy piece of chicken dripping in cheese with a very small amount of heat that just made my lips sing a little bit. We had gravy on the side that i dipped before each bite too. We ordered: 'The Reggie' chicken biscuit Price: $21.94 AUD Verdict: 6/10 - Lots of potential but missed the mark for me. Plus the price was maddness. Stop Two: Nong's Khao Man Gai $$$ One of the more famous places in Portland is Nong's Khao Man Gai. This is a little bit of a sad story because originally this was only a food truck that kept their menu very simple One item - Chicken and rice. it was supposed to be as good as the chicken and rice we had all around south east Asia but we unfortauntely must have had a bad batch. The check was filled with fatty parts, with very minimal flavour. The rice was standard boiled rice and the cucumber was a little bit dry. The Soup/Broth that it was served with had a really nice flavour but if you came here for the chicken and rice after hearing all the hype, you probably left dissapointed. We ordered: Chicken and rice Price: $21.33 AUD Verdict: 3/10 - It gets some points on the board for the soup but we barely touched the chicken and rice unfrotauntely. The price is also astronomical for what you get. Stop Three: Voodoo Donuts $ Voodoo donuts is a Portlandish... Portlandic?.. Icon. It's a big deal here. I'm very happy to report this one passes muster. We treated ourselves to a Boston cream donut and this little characted in the photo (We needed a video thumbnail) and both tasted amazing. We ended up eatin donuts the while time we were in America and Canada and none of them were ever as good as these first ones we tried. Bravo Voodoo donut! We ordered: Boston cream Price: $5.84 AUD Verdict: 9/10 - So happy with Voodoo donuts. We went back for a second time (obviously) and they were just as good. Some people say there are other better donut shops in Portland but the classic Voodoo was the best we tried! Stop Four: Ken's Artisan Pizza $$$$ For our final stop on our DIY portland food tour we stopped off for some Italian style pizza from Ken's Artisan Pizza. This place had only JUST opened and evey table was full with a line around the corner. You can't make any reservations at the restaurant so it's first in best dressed andmy word, it was popular. We ordered and hung around in the neighbourhood for abour 25 minutes until it was ready then the smell was too good to bring it home and eat so we opened it up on the street for a slice! We ordered: Pepperoni Price: $31.85 AUD Verdict: 7.5/10 - Look, the Pizza was delicious. but over $30 for a single pizza is just unreal. we consider ourselves pizza snobs and have no shortage of some epic quality at home so for this place to score a 7.5 really means it's doing something right. Unfortauntely that means you have to pay for it. The ULTIMATE Portland Food Tour Summary Unforauntely Portland just didn't hold up for us. We went in with huge expectations that for the most part just weren't met. Plus, when your budget travelling on $100 a day and your food for the day is 80% of that budget... let's just say we we're very lucky we we're able to get a trusted house sitters in Portland and most big cities or I don't think we would have been in America for very long!

  • g'day from Australia (still!) | Jordan & Emily Travel Newsletter #5

Our weekly travel newsletter is back! Here is an old one we sent before we left for the US! newsletter sent: March 6, 2023 at 5:04PM get our newsletters sent to your inbox the day it's sent - sign up by clicking here! week(s) in review These past weeks have been a family and friend filled blur! For some reason I was convinced that this time home we would get so much done and wouldn't be that busy but no, most days have been filled with catch ups, planning or editing! No complaints here though because we have a few wins on the board that I am choosing to celebrate: 1. some free accom lined up in USA (thanks to trusted housesitters!) This is probably our biggest win because accomodation expensive in the states! 2. all currently filmed videos are edited and uploaded! (this sounds much more impressive than it is as it is only this weeks video) 3. plans to go to Canada and do a roadtrip from Vancouver! This win in FRESH but we are super excited to get to explore Canada, I have only ever been to Toronto and Jordan's never been. It looks right up our alley and we may even try out van life next week TOMORROW we leave for the States and I still haven't finished packing. So today I will no doubt be in a chaotic state running around trying to make sure I have everything ready for our 5am wake up call! Our 'travel day' video we are going to talk about how much money YouTube has paid us now we have been on the platform for an entire YEAR!! 😳 Honestly, feels like a lifetime but also like a week somehow? Then we are thinking it would be fun to do a 'AI planned the perfect day in Portland' video! We haven't really shared our ideas for videos before so if you think these stink or have any other creative idaes let us know! videos Seeing as I blanked on sending emails out while we have been home (I blame being overwhelemed by packing, planning and baby cuddles!) we have posted four videos since our last newsletter. One where we got to see real life Komodo Dragons 🤯 another was from a very 'cup is full' kind of day we had in Ruteng, Indonesia! Then a video about visiting Mount Kelimutu and OMG do I love the video. We had such a great day at Kelimutu and the video is easily one of my recent favourites! For those who don't know the Kelimutu Volcano (which is still active btw) had three vibrant crater lakes THAT CHANGE COLOUR! Finally one where we actually got to enjoy a holiday for once! behind the scenes extra video? - We posted two videos the other week and in brutal honesty it's becuase we don't think of our most recent ones as our 'strongest'. Our number #1 reason to have these videos is for our memories, so that means even if we don't tell a good story or edit a great video we still want to make a vlog to remember that day and what we got up to! instagram/TikTok - Now comes the part of the newletter where I say I want to get better at posting here next week. Let's see if this is the week it sticks. we spent money - Literally TODAY Jordan spent way more than we should have on a drone! That's where we got the cool shot* of Adeliade for the header of this email. *screenshot from hectic first flight recommendations Honestly have zero recommendations for this week. It has been one of those whirlwind weeks where you feel like you are busy the whole time but nothing gets done! social pipes & shameless plugs ☕️ Support us directly here 🚀 check out our website! 📸 want to know what gear we use? check out here! p.s please reply to this with any feedback, comments or questions! ☺️
