So why record our expenses? We wrestled with the idea of spending all our money on experiences versus knuckling down at work in an attempt to set ourselves up for the future. Ultimately, we decided that houses can burn down, investments can be lost and money can be wasted but memories can never be taken from you. We wanted to solidify those memories by creating videos. But also wanted to show people a realistic view of what a full-time travel lifestyle would cost. When I went looking for something similar they were few and far between, so I wanted to do something for the next person who comes looking. And so, a terrible and laborious google sheet was born. It's since been updated many times and is much easier to manage. All of the data here is from that sheet. Where did the money come from? When we tell people that we are travelling full-time, they tend to have the same few comments. We must have wealthy parents who are paying for everything, or that we have come into inheritance or a lottery win or something else crazy. While we both acknowledge we are very privileged to be able to even earn an income - all the money we have saved up has been solely from working full time. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed putting it together! What you came here for: Breakdown of what's below: Expenses YouTube Analytics Summary Expense Report Expense by category This is a quick reference category breakdown of our expenses. Back on the road! We left Adelaide on March 6th and flew through LA to Portland. We didn't' realise how expensive USA is for Australians these days. Operating with a $100 AUD per day budget becomes near impossible when the cheapest place to rent starts at $80 and resembles a public toilet at a train station. LUCKILY we lined up 2 house sitters through March, one for 3 days in Portland and another for 10 nights in Seattle. The food in America also took us by surprise, so much so that when we ate out we would typically buy one of something and split it. One standard breakfast sandwich was $25.. .think a deluxe McMuffin from maccas.. $25! The insurance also immediately doubled in price when we hit America, no doubt due to the healthcare system. It's gotten so expensive it warranted it's own category for this one! Accommodations Expenses Trusted house sitters is amazing and you can get a 25% discount through this link: https://www.trustedhousesitters.com/refer/RAF275353/?utm_source=copy-link&utm_medium=refer-a-friend&utm_campaign=refer-a-friend Accommodation hit hard in North America (As did everything else) so we more or less stayed in the absolute cheapest possible private room and thats only because 2 beds in a dorm worked out even more expensive! Transport Expenses Things to note: The numbers are different to the 'Expenses by Category' Section. that's because in that section I use the Master sheet which includes small transports like Ubers, Grabs, Taxis and short cheap trains which I thought wouldn't add any value in this section! (I kept the total the same) Using some points to book the big international flights really helped on our way to America. Unfortauntely the city-to-city busses for those cities that are super close together were also costing our entire daily budget. You can see how staying under budget was never going to happen in the states. We looked at trains as other options for all of the land based travel but they all worked out to be approximately double the price which we just couldn't justify! Fixed Costs Insurance is expensive but worth it. Safety wing is our insurer of choice, they seemed to offer the most comprehensive cover especially when lots of countries needed specific types of insurance during the pandemic, they were great! - Unforauntely coming to America meant we had to increase our coverage which immediately doubled the price. But it's just something you Need to have. Adobe is the software we used to edit our YouTube videos. Epidemic sound is where we get all our music from, you can get a free trial with this link*: https://share.epidemicsound.com/i1nhpc Income Report Affiliate Income Amazon - Nothing happening here anymore, I think we need a viral video with some good cinematography before this kicks off maybe. Get your Guide - we had 21 people click on our link in March but still no purchases other than our initial success Viator - We had 89 new sessions on Viator in March but no new bookings. Thankfully we were able to withdraw our earnings from previous bookings which we did! good to see it paying off in some form! Licensing Agreements No licensing this month, I'm hoping it wasn't a one time thing! YouTube Analytics March was always going to be an interesting one - It took us a lot longer to hit the algorithm in Indonesia than we would have like so our first video in Labuan Bajo only really started kicking off once we were about to leave and start filming in America! Hopefully it's just a lagging indicator and our USA videos will perform similarly soon too! We made a little bit more than February this month but it still felt a lot like pushing a boulder up a hill, thankfully we had a lot more interest in the partnership/sponsorship sife of the business and we are hopeing soon we will find one that fits with us! Summary We are so exicted to be in North America and have some pretty exciting things planned for the next few months before we head to South America! We are hopeful we can find a way to resonate with viewers and our America's videos can pack a punch to keep us on the road! We've landed in America! 🇺🇸 Our first stop is Portland, Oregon where we try to discover if it really is the best city in America for foodies like one online article suggests! In this video we try out a mix of Portland restaurants made up of food from all over the world. • This is how much youtube paid us for our first year of travel (Monetization and Analytics)

We are SO grateful to everyone who watches anything we put out! Thank you for making this all possible! Before starting our YouTube channel we were obsessed with seeing if travelling full time is possible and we watched countless YouTube income videos. We kept our own data from the first day we stepped foot on a plane and meticulously noted how much youtube paid us at every stage as well as our theorys behind why the YouTube income might fluctuate. In this video we try to present that information in a diferent way. So, rather than just sitting and talking through our Analytics we wanted to show How much youtube paid us for our first year travelling the world WHILE we we're travelling the world. This is our travel day from Adelaide to Portland heavily featuring our YouTube income journey, Monetization statistics and all of our Youtube Analytics. watch full video here: #youtubeincome#youtubemoney#youtubeanalytics

  • The BEST Indonesian resort is NOT in Bali (Coconut garden beach resort)

Sunshine, watersports, beach living and... a gym? Toward the end of our Indonesia trip we wanted to relax for a few days. After hiking mount Kelimutu we drove 3 hours north to Maumere straight to the gorgeous coconut garden beach resort. We had the best time at the beach resort and even though we were there during the rainy season we had incredible sunshine almost everyday and the clouds only gathered at night which meant we always got a nice cool change to sleep too! If your planning a trip to the island of Flores and you make it out to Maumere you can't go passed the coconut beach resort. All the staff were so lovely and cooked some of the best and freshest vegetarian food we've ever had! • The Colour Changing Lakes Of Mount Kelimutu! (Flores, Indonesia)

📍Kelimutu National Park, Flores, Indonesia Flores is an incredible island and right in the middle of it, sits the mystifying Kelimutu volcano! 🌋 We had breakfast at gecko homestays in Moni before starting the climb. Mount Kelimutu is one of the 76 active volcanos on the indonesian Archipelago and in our opinion, one of the best places to visit in Indonesia. It is home to three crater lakes which people call Volcanic Mood Rings because they actually CHANGE COLOUR! Even though each crater is fed underground from the same place all of them are different in colour and can even change throughout the year, sometimes even turning red! The locals believe there lakes are where those who have passed come to rest and that what sort of person you were will influence which lake you are resting in. This is on of the coolest sights we get to see on our Indonesia trip and we hope you enjoy watching this video as much as we enjoyed making it! • G'day from Adelaide (Jordan & Emily Newsletter #4)

get our newsletters sent to your inbox the day it's sent - sign up by clicking here! week in review This weeks video was our travel day to Indonesia, its so crazy that we are this out of sync with actual life but we are glad that we have been able to post consitantly even when we are home! The travel day was super quick and easy (watch it here)so we even got to spend most of the afternoon walking around Labuan Bajo! The most exciting thing to happen this week though was that we officially became Aunty and Uncle! Little Matilda is our little burrito and we love her so much I could cry! next week This weeks plans are to continue living in our little love bubble with our new neice but we also REALLY need to get planning for America! A few things are starting to fall into place, it looks like after Portland we will have a few days to head up to Seattle. At this point, in an effort to save the budget, we are esentially letting House Sitters decide where we are going and for how long. 🤞 The next video to come out is our Slow Boat Tour where we go to visit the Komodo Islands (where Komodo Dragons live!) and to be honest it wasn't really what we were expecting! I still struggle being 'negative' in any way but do think its important to be honest. You will see in the video we still had an amazing day it just wasn't what we excpected! behind the scenes Extra video? - We are still posting weekly at the moment but this week we are planning on dropping an extra video on Thursday(ish)! Partly becuase we have enough videos to cover us being at home and partly because while we are still proud of our first few Indonesia videos, they definitly aren't our strongest. Turns out talking to the camera after a month off can be a bit akwards again! Patreon - Another exciting (I think) thing to happen is we made a Patreon, this has been a discussion for a while with Jordan and I and he all of a sudden made the account the other day! We won't be pushing that we have this page but it will be linked in descriptions and on our website for those who do want a little bit extra. Instagram/TikTok - It's only been a week but I'm still lost with these apps. This weeks goal (for instagram) is to post a few things that are 'in line' with the videos! TikTok is still a bit of a wasteland where we both post whatever we want whenever we want so the timeline is all over the place there! recommendations This week at home we have binged the last of us! It is one of those shows that normally Jordan would have to 'sell' me on but wow is it amazing. The Last of Us social pipes & shameless plugs ☕️ Support us directly here 🚀 check out our website! 📸 want to know what gear we use? check out here! p.s please reply to this with any feedback, comments or questions! ☺️

I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed putting it together! What you came here for: Breakdown of what's below: Expenses YouTube Analytics Summary Expense Report Expense by category This is a quick reference category breakdown of our expenses. We spent half of february at home and still went over budget. First reason for this is catching up with friends in Australia isnt cheap. we were spending our daily budget on one meal out with dinner and drinks. We also invested in ourselves by fixing old tech and buying some new tech! Accommodations Expenses We spent most of February at home being trying to get ourselves ready for the coming year! unfortunately we ended up spending WAY more than we should have, particularly when you consider we are starting the next leg of our journey in a VERY expensive country. (Seriously, I can't find any sort of accommodation under our $100 budget per night) Transport Expenses Things to note: The numbers are different to the 'Expenses by Category' Section. that's because in that section I use the Master sheet which includes small transports like Ubers, Grabs, Taxis and short cheap trains which I thought wouldn't add any value in this section! (I kept the total the same) Small planes in Indonesia are not a fun time. fir the first time ever we had a flight cancel on us and it happened 3 times on this short trip! meaning we are still eaiting for refunds from airlines that we arent even sure are coming. (Not included above) The flights are relatively cheap and can be taken pretty last minute, the only caveat to that is the cost of baggage. They are all low cost airlines so any checked luggage can cost as much as another ticket! Fixed Costs Insurance is expensive but worth it. Safety wing is our insurer of choice, they seemed to offer the most comprehensive cover especially when lots of countries needed specific types of insurance during the pandemic, they were great! Adobe is the software we used to edit our YouTube videos Epidemic sound is where we get all our music from, you can get a free trial with this link*: https://share.epidemicsound.com/i1nhpc Income Report Affiliate Income Amazon - 56 clicks this month - but it didn't relate in any sales. getting pretty disheartening. Get your Guide - Only 10 people clicked on our link in February and still no purchases other than our initial success Viator - Viator picked up a bit! we ended up having 3 people book tours through February all spanning form our vietnam videos. we have a money sitting in our partnership with Viator and are just waiting on tax forms to be able to recieve the funds! (Hopefully next month) Licensing Agreements No licensing this month, I'm hoping it wasn't a one time thing! YouTube Analytics It seems as if the dreaded January month caught up with us in february. We had a stinker. None of our videos really took off at all and still havent found any traction. Financially it was our worst performing month since August which is kind of greta to say! even though we had no videos perform great, we had enough of a back-catalogue to maintain a few views through the month. We also published our one year wrap up which took Emily a long time to edit and we were really proud of, unfortauntely we struggled to get appropriate key words in there and it also hasn't found much of an audience. Summary Back to reality. Starting travelling, filming and editing again was harder than we though and it took a while to get back into it. • Kelimutu Volcano Hike (What to expect)

The Kelimutu volcano located on the island of Flores in Indonesia is a must-see attraction if you've decided to explore the island. It sits frustratingly right in the middle of the island and so isn't as easy to reach as other well-known attractions. In this guide I'll take you through our hike up the Kelimutu volcano and give you an idea of what to expect on a hike of your own! See our full video here! How to get there Even though Kelimutu is right in the middle of the island and a full 12 hour drive from the biggest tourist attracted in East Nusa Tengarra (the Komodos) there are still a few options to get there. check out our travel guide for all the prices we paid! The long way: Exploring for a few weeks may entail making stops on the way and using shared transport around the island. We did just that, taking a shared bus from Labuan Bajo, stopping in Ruteng for a few nights before continuing on to Moni, which is situated at the mountain's foot. We arranged the transfers by asking our hotel and connecting with a bus driver through WhatsApp. Freedom is king: For those unafraid of riding two-wheeled vehicles, renting a motorbike is a popular choice on the island. This option not only allows you to travel to the town before your hike but also takes you all the way up to the carpark where the hike begins. Spending Money: Short on time but long on money? Consider flying! Smaller airlines fly across Indonesia at reasonable prices, but be aware that flight cancellations and rescheduling are common. Check diligently, as airport signs may not reflect this. Fly into Maumere (MOF) or Ende (ENE) airports, and then travel to Moni, approximately 3 hours from Maumere and 1 hour from Ende by car. Arrange transport at the airport or spend a night in Ende or Maumere for a cheaper, pre-arranged car service to Moni from your hotel. Where to stay Moni Moni is the go-to place for a Kelimutu hike, despite its one-street, small-town feel and lack of AC and Wi-Fi in 90% of accommodations. However, its location near the mountain offers the advantage of witnessing the sunrise hike at the summit of the active volcano, a breathtaking sight. You can arrange for a private car to take you halfway up the mountain to the hiking trail's start, where a 15-minute hike can turn into a 90-minute trek with stops. Alternatively, comfortable motorbike riders can drive to the trailhead. We stayed at the gecko Homestay. It was a beautuful place which included breakfast and was on the cheap(ish) side for the area. We were able to easily organise transport through the host! Ende Another popular option is to stay in Ende and drive one hour to Kelimutu on the day of the hike. You can book group packages online or through travel agents or arrange for transport with your hotel. Staying in Ende offers relative luxury, fast Wi-Fi, and air conditioning, however all but sacrifices the sunrise hike. Nonetheless, hiking during the day is still an incredible experience. In Ende, we stayed at LCR, a modern, comfortable hotel a bit far from the main town, but with local shops within walking distance. The hike itself (Spoilers) We began our hike in the late morning, driving through some beautiful green fields worked on by locals with big smiles on their faces. We paid and went through the entrance gate and drove all the way up to the start of the trail. There's an option to park and hike from the gate, but it's a bit far. At the start of the hike, there's an information center with some cool info about the volcano, the lakes, and the local beliefs. The pathway starts in a thick forest full of noisy animals and bugs. After a while, you reach a clearing and a bigger road for vehicles that leads to various lookout spots. Finally, you reach the first lookout, which is the best one in our opinion. It's close to the most striking blue lake, and you can see the green lake on the other side of a crater wall. There are small signs with interesting facts and info about the craters all along the hike. The path gets steeper until you reach the summit. From there, you can see all three lakes and how different each color is! But be careful, because there are lots of monkeys up there. They're really interested in stealing people's food and might even cling onto you if you've fed them before. The hike down is easy and peaceful, but watch out for the sulfur smell. It can make you cough if you're not ready for it!
